Who's that writin'? Ben the (Literary) Revelator

Literary Revelations has published two poems by me. They're under the giant portrait (taken by Christine Stoddard). If you can manage to look away from my visage, there's verse awaiting you on the bottom (don't attempt this with me in real life).

I'll Be at a Reading in Time Square

UPDATE: I'll be part of a reading on Sunday, May 22, 2022. It is called "Poet Voice Sucks: Funny Poetry From Writers, Comedians & Actors" and is being put together by Christine Stoddard. Several poets and performers from the tri-state (try to guess which states) area will be involved. There will be only FUNNY poems. This might be the first time I've been mentioned in Eventbrite.

Visit France and Croatia

...or visit web pages hosted in France and Croatia where poems of mine have just been published. ZVONA i NARI has published two poems from me, and Revue Revolution has work on its English and French sites (photo credit of Christine Stoddard).

Don't Be Scared by the Giant Picture of My Head at the Top of the Page

Finding a picture of Cambyses is difficult

Three poems of mine are in Impspired. One of them involves the name of a Persian King. Another involves vegetables. And finally, the last one discusses writer's block. Fun! (The picture in question on the website was taken by Christine S. Stoddard).

Mentioned in the Secular Press

Happy end of July everybody. Today, I learned that I was mentioned in the Falls Church News-Press, as part of Charlie Clark's "Our Man in Arlington Column." It is part of a general review of a collection I appeared in last year focused on Arlington County, Virginia, my hometown. It was edited by Katherine E. Young, the county poet laureate. The anthology is titled: Written in Arlington: Poems of Arlington, Virginia, and it still available for sale as far as I know. It also features work from my friend Christine Stoddard.

Windows 96: Product Review

No, I'm not discussing a recently rediscovered lost Microsoft product from the Gold Age of Gates. The Windows 96 in question is both the name of a musical act, and the name of a poem I wrote about it

More specifically, I used the reaction of listeners to the music. My medium? Cutting up the comments they posted under the YouTube video for the album pictured above. A lot of nostalgia, as you can imagine.

While the Comments Section lit mag is the first place to put this poem out in print or online, I actually read an earlier draft of this work at a reading hosted by Christine Stoddard at Unnamable Books in 2019.

Soundscape Theater presents "Nessie" an Audio Play with ME (and others)

Listen to Soundscape Theater's latest work "Nessie," a short audio play written by Christine Stoddard, directed by John Cappello, with sound designed & edited by India Stachyra. As for the voices, they are supplied by Donna Morales and yours truly. Listen to it at YouTube or the above links.

A Poem and a Video About a Poem

Thanks to Christine Sloan Stoddard for recording me reading my poem "Drunken History" and then making a video out of it. Enjoy. The inspiration for the poem came from studying the Battle of New York during the Revolutionary War and comparing the displacement of artists due to development, to the retreating Continentals.

Also, it wouldn't be a blog post without a link to a poem. BOMBFIRE has published a poem of mine called "Getting You from A to B with Peace of Mind."

Come See and Hear Me Read! (And some other people...)

So I'll be reading at Unnameable Books this Thursday. The reading will be part of a series to promote the release of Christine Stoddard's book launch for Desert Fox by the Sea. It'll probably be poems, but who knows. Maybe I'll read a Death Compromise from work, and then expound on how a poem is like asbestos, but good. The best of asbestos? Other readers include Jeanne Joe Perrone and Lana C. Marilyn.

Come one, come all. Come to the New York City Poetry Festival. This year, as in years past, it's on Governor's Island. Unlike last year, this year I'll be reading with Quail Bell Magazine. Come hear us do LIVE readings at the Algonquin Stage at 5:30 on Saturday. The Festival will go on both Saturday and Sunday and it's FREE!

Poet of the Week: Christine Stoddard

My friend Christine Stoddard was interviewed by Brooklyn Poets. She discusses her life, work, and the communities she's lived in. Oh, and she mentions a young poet living in Brooklyn and who writes for this blog.

The Future Is Nice

I got a thing, you got a thing, everybody's got a thing...but not everybody's got a thing in Quail Bell. Enjoy a piece of hybrid absurdity that mixes the real and the unreal, the ethereal of the promise and the mundane of the product.

Forays into Film Criticism

Hey everybody, I wrote some film reviews. Quail Bell was kind enough to publish them. In theory I'm their "New York Correspondent." Hopefully more work will be forthcoming from this position. I plan to review all kinds of things, from books to movies to food. One of these reviews is for the movie Queen of Heaven, the other is the zombie flick Cooties. I'm trying to focus on the conditions of watching the film itself, as well as what's on the silver screen.

I'm Running Out of January

But I got new things to post. A poem of mine (but not painting) is up at Quail Bell. I'm kinda part of their crew now, so read around the site. If you think your work might be a fit, consider submitting.
