I'll Be at a Reading in Time Square

UPDATE: I'll be part of a reading on Sunday, May 22, 2022. It is called "Poet Voice Sucks: Funny Poetry From Writers, Comedians & Actors" and is being put together by Christine Stoddard. Several poets and performers from the tri-state (try to guess which states) area will be involved. There will be only FUNNY poems. This might be the first time I've been mentioned in Eventbrite.

Let the Hard Times Roll (or Not)

Locust Nine is out, featuring a poem from me. There's a poem translated from Chinese as well. That's interesting! My poem, "Hard Times Cafe," is about an establishment that used to exist in Clarendon, Arlington. It served chili but I mostly went there for its happy hour specials. One night, I was there with a friend during a rain storm and we watched Arlington's attempt at Mardi Gras pass on by. It became the genesis of the poem you're about to (or already have) read.

Lesson of the Month

Don't name your child after someone who is famous but still living, case in point. At least think of their future Wikipedia page! Do you want them to be buried under disambiguation?

THE ART OF THE MEMOIR:

TELLING & SELLING YOUR LIFE STORIES

Performances, followed by discussion of the joys and perils of making a narrative out of your own life, dealing with issues of privacy and the lunacy of family, and figuring out how to navigate the stormy seas of publishing. All questions will be answered. And perhaps an audience member or two will get a chance to tell one of their life stories.
